Rate education

How rates work

The buy rate and the sell rate

The buy rate is what you receive when you sell foreign currency to us. The sell rate is what you pay when you buy foreign currency from us. These two numbers are not the same.

The spread

The difference between the buy and sell rate is the spread. It reflects the cost and risk of holding physical currency.

The fee

Any separate fee is stated clearly before you pay. To compare fairly, consider the rate you receive together with any stated fee.

Final confirmation

Displayed rates are informational until they are confirmed by the branch for your specific amount and currency.
